Vijaya Bharti: A Brief Profile
The Indian music's vastness and depth is mesmerizing. Even a lifetime is not enough to learn the thousands of ragas and raginis. All these ragas have originated from the Indian folk music. It reflects the true picture of our country, its culture, its tradition and most of all its ability to connect with people.
Vijaya Bharti is a name that people associate with Indian folk music. She sings in eighteen Indian languages like Hindi, Bhojpuri, Maithili, Angika, Awadhi, Brajbhasha, Bundeli, Nagpuri, Punjabi, Haryanawi, Rajasthani, Bengali, Santhali, Assamese, Gwalpariya, Gadhwali, Gujrati, and Marathi. But she is essentially known as a Bhojpuri singer all over the world. It is her forte. She has presented and participated in many serials as an Anchor, Singer and Celebrity Folk Star on various TV Channels.
Her ability to write and compose her songs, which are soaked in the fragrance of Indian soil, makes her one of the leading flag bearers of the Indian folk music. She abhors any kind of vulgarity which is polluting the beauty of folk music.
A somber looking Vijaya transforms into an electrifying performer when on stage. She has given more than 1000 live performances across India and abroad. She connects and enthralls the audience of all age groups. Due to her versatility, she has got popularity in countries like Russia, Nepal, Mauritius, Holland, Belgium, the Caribbean islands, etc.
Apart from her live shows, Vijaya has more than 100 albums to her name from leading audio companies.
She has done playback singing for movies as well. She has sung for movies like Dharmyuddha, Gaon Aaja Pardesi, Toote Na Sanehiya Ke Dor, etc.

That is not all; she is a famous TV personality too. Since the inception of the leading Bhojpuri channel ‘MAHUA’, she has been hosting their morning show ‘Bihane Bihane’. The success of this program paved way for a new game show ‘Bhauji No. 1’ in which Vijaya was the main judge. She had also hosted a musical show ‘Dhun’ for ETV Bihar and U.P.

She is a Writer, Composer, and Singer of repute. Most of her songs are self written and composed. She is empanelled with ICCR and has performed in more than 20 Countries. She has also been performing regularly in various programmes organised by NCZCC, Cultural Departments of UP, Bihar, MP, Delhi and other States.
Vijaya Bharti is known for her Class, non vulgar and melodious performances all over the country and abroad. One of the South African Newspaper had commented after her performance under the headline “ELECTRIFYING BHARTI”.
She has been honored by Former Prime Ministers late Rajiv Gandhi Ji, Late Chandrashekhar Ji and many Chief Ministers of different States and Union Ministers also.
In the last two months Vijaya has performed at Meghalaya, Mumbai, Delhi, Ballia, NTPC Dadri & Bhopal. The fact is she has given more than 1000 live shows across the country and abroad so far.
Her recent performance at Bharat Bhawan, Bhopal was appreciated by all. It should be noted that Bharat Bhawan at Bhopal is India’s prestigious Art & Culture Centre, where only Top Grade Artists are given chance to perform.
Vijaya has also acted and Sung in a few Bhojpuri Films like
Ganv Aa Ja Pardesi, Dharmayudh and Tute Na Sanehiya ke Dor. Vijaya had sung and played a role in the Fani Talukdar’s TV Serial –ANUSANDHAN in 1994.

But all this is just a one part of her personality. She is a trained classical singer. Vijaya got her vocal training from famous Guru Mishra Bandhu of Varanasi, U.P. She has done Masters in Music and Hindi and has also completed Ph.D. equivalent Vidyavachaspati in music.
Vijaya has sung and anchored a Telefilm for a TV channel of Holland better known as O.H.M. She also penned the lyrics, composed and sung for a UNICEF film ‘Khel Se Sulekh Tak’. She has produced and worked for various TV and radio documentaries and serials.
She has received more than 2 dozen awards for her contribution to the Indian folk music.
